Reporting to the CEO of USA, the Director of Development serves as the partner with the CEO and the Board of Trustees in positioning the mission and work of USA through all communications and development functions.
This position strategically designs and implements all fundraising activities in support of the overall annual financial needs and will prepare USA for a proposed endowment campaign. Working in close partnership with the CEO, the senior leadership team, and the Board of Trustees, the Director of Development will be responsible for creating, communicating and executing USA’s development strategy and for ensuring that the CEO is well positioned and prepared for fundraising with the Board of Trustees in their effort to expand the organization’s impact on artists.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish and implement an annual development plan forecasting
goals against prospects—both renewable sources of income and new
prospects for future growth - Develop and manage a plan for each prospect that includes
cultivation, solicitation strategies, and stewardship; ensure an
effective moves management system for tracking prospects against
financial goals - Sustain and renew long-standing relationships with founding donors of
USA and re-engage them in further support of the mission and growth
plan for the future - Prepare the CEO, members of the Board of Trustees for cultivation
events and direct solicitations; accompanying them when needed - Develop a cultivation program to engage prospects and donors
around the plans for the future - Support the CEO and Board of Trustees in growing and developing
the Board for the future; in particular help to build a representative
board across all 9 disciplines of grant-making and strategically grow
the Board to prepare for a major fundraising campaign - Develop relationships with Corporations for sponsorship and direct
support; prepare all marketing and sponsorship materials - Develop relationships with the Foundation community locally and
nationally, leveraging the strong relationships on the Board, to help
identify and secure significant Foundation multi-year support - Write proposals and reports for corporate, foundation, individual and
government support - Prepare donor research
- Implement prospect record keeping, tracking and financial systems
working with finance department to ensure best practice in the use
and recordkeeping of all funds - Develop and tailor the case for support and work with the CEO to
identify funding opportunities and to match donor interests - Work with the finance department to prepare and administer the
annual operational budget for the department—both income and
expense - Position the institution so that a proper climate exists in order to raise
funds; maintain a visible role in the field and public’s mind for the
important work and accomplishments of USA - Collaborate with an external public relations firm to develop and
implement the external communications strategy as a springboard for
fundraising and donor relations. - Accompany the CEO and members of the Board of Trustees by
attending frequent evening and weekend events to meet prospective
new donors and to cultivate and steward existing donors - Help design and organize the annual Artists Assembly and use it as
both a communications and fundraising tool - Working with the Alumni Program Officer, develop fundraising plans to
engage artist fellows. - Take on additional duties as required and requested

Experience
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of successful fundraising experience in the
arts - BA with Masters in related field a plus
